Alex TrajanoPercussion
Alex Trajano is a seasoned mainstay of the Detroit music scene who puts eclecticism and creativity at the top of his agenda. Always changing and shifting, Trajano is known for finding the surprises in musical moments while filling the cracks between genres with a determinedly unique and energetic presence.
Trajano has performed with the finest of Detroit & Ann Arbor and has toured the US, Europe and Scandinavia extensively performing at major jazz & creative music festivals as well as various art-houses and watering holes. He is also a founding member of Blue Dog, a group that received favorable acclaim in publications such as Downbeat & Wire upon signing with New York's famed Knitting Factory Works Records. Blue Dogs latest release is an improvised sound track to Jean Cocteaus's 1938 avant silent film "Blood of a Poet".
His quest for artistic expression and documentation spill over into the recording arts as owner of Thrilla Park Recording Laboratory in Clawson. Surrounding himself with vintage & oddball instruments and recording devices he has produced some of the most unique and sonically interesting cds for artists ranging from Marcus Belgrave to Iggy Pop.
Thrilla Park also transforms into an intimate, inviting performance space/gallery to host the infamous "sessions@west14mile" which debuted in 2004 to rave reviews. The series, assembled by Trajano and guitarist Ryan Mackstaller, is a recording session of two widely varied groups in front of an audience while adjoining rooms become a gallery to exhibit visual art. Music by Bottomed Out, Magnificent Bastard (NYC) and Dan Johnson as well as the mixed media art of Beth Ann Wilusz and the photography of Cybelle Codish have been featured.
This fall Trajano will debut a new project at Ann Arbor's 2005 Egdefest called "Bright Out". This ever shifting group concept navigates pop, improv, avant, indie rock and jazz with changing instrumentation and vocal harmonies.
